Forget the polished productions of the mainstream; the Finnish trio Troubles is here to remind us that rock ’n’ roll is best served raw, loud, and slightly dangerous. Their latest offering, Red Alert, is a high-octane masterclass in garage-punk revivalism. From the very first chord, the album hits like a shot of adrenaline, channeling the unbridled energy of legends like Dead Moon and the Dead Boys, but with a distinctly modern Nordic bite.
Led by the snarling vocals and jagged guitar work of Ida-Lotta, the record thrives on its lo-fi urgency. Tracks like "Gimme Danger" showcase the band’s ability to marry infectious, power-pop melodies with a gritty, underground aesthetic. The rhythm section, anchored by Laura’s punchy bass lines, keeps the momentum relentless, ensuring that the tension never drops. It’s a "rehearsal space" sound done right—unpolished, authentic, and bursting with a "don't care" attitude that is increasingly rare.
What makes "Red Alert" stand out is its balance. While the distortion is heavy and the pace is frantic, the songwriting remains razor-sharp. There’s a sense of rebellion in every riff, but the hooks are what will stay stuck in your head long after the feedback fades. If you’re looking for the soundtrack to a sweaty basement show or a chaotic night out, this is it. Troubles haven't just released an album; they’ve sounded a sonic warning that Finnish punk is alive, kicking, and louder than ever.
A visceral, no-nonsense debut that captures the pure, electric spirit of garage rock.
