As regular readers already know from our interview published right here in Rough Times, Mulhouse's own TAOH (Short for "The Act Of Humanity") operate on their own fiercely independent wavelength. With their latest release "Black Roses", streaming now over on Bandcamp, the trio delivers a striking, uncompromised masterclass in post-punk tension and dynamic release.
Musically, the shadow of Fugazi looms large over the arrangements—evident in the jagged, interlocking guitar work, the muscular basslines, and an urgent rhythm section built on gritty post-hardcore discipline. Yet, what makes "Black Roses" particularly captivating is how TAOH harness that iconic late-'80s alternative rock dynamic pioneered by Pixies: the art of the sudden, structural loud / quiet / loud shift. Rather than borrowing Pixies' quirky indie-pop melodicism, TAOH channel this dynamic freedom into a much darker, more brooding sonic landscape. This nod to Pixies surfaces with delightful familiarity on the third track, "Insidious Cure", where both the tension-building intro and the chorus with its cool spoken-word delivery immediately recall Black Francis & co.
Raw, heavy, and dripping with DIY integrity, "Black Roses" balances sharp dissonance with haunting undertones that keep you constantly on edge. An essential listen for anyone who appreciates smart, uncompromising underground noise. Go check it out.

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI, AGNOSTIC FRONT... quickly leading him to explore THRASH METAL and CROSSOVER styles (SLAYER, EXODUS, KREATOR, VOIVOD, ANTHRAX, S.O.D., TESTAMENT...) and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Not to mention the DEATH-METAL/GRIND-CORE wave (DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, MORGOTH, NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER...)...
Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back !
