Apart from the “Omens” Ep released in 2021, LADY BEAST's last proper album, “The Vulture's Amulet”, dates back to 2020, 5 years ago... It was high time for a new album - and “The Inner Alchemist” arrives... in a few days ! The Wait is OVER !
Having followed the band since the very beginning, I was quite curious to see how they would sound today with this new opus !
I'd better tell you right away - no big surprises, no big disappointments - LADY BEAST continue on their way, and have a great time throwing down some very heavy metal salvos, still with this distinctive NWOBHM influence ! So if you liked LADY BEAST before, you're sure to love this new album! And if you didn't, then try again, because....
....the 9 tracks on this new album are all very captivating, with catchy refrains that get right into your head, and it doesn't take long to feel the need to shake your head and raise your fists high! Surprisingly, nothing sounds “new” - neck-breaking rhythms, riffs cut from steel, inspired leads, twin-guitars for superb harmonies and those warm, expressive vocals ... it's all been done before, both by the band and by others long before, but here, the recipe works perfectly and the music quickly becomes addictive! LADY BEAST has gained in cohesion and asserts its own style and musical identity - which at the moment - given the multitude of existing Heavy-Metal bands, is rather good news - PITTSBURGH's “Steel City” seems to have found its proudest representative !
Listening to these 9 tracks, you can feel the obvious influences of bands such as IRON MAIDEN (the intro to “Starborn” took me straight back to “Strange World” - a nice trip back in time !), RAINBOW, DIO, BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST or MERCYFUL FATE, but LADY BEAST's strength lies in their ability to perpetuate the “old-school” spirit of the 80's with class, spirit and personality !
As for the production, it's rather raw, which perfectly enhances the band's old-school side, while the mixing is rather successful, allowing us to hear each instrument, not forgetting the bass (which isn't always the case, unfortunately) and letting us appreciate some heartfelt lines like on “Through The Eyes Of War”, a little treat !
With “The Alchemist”, LADY BEAST continues to assert its style without worrying about fashions, remaining true to itself - thus proving its integrity - this band has all my respect ! METAL IS IMMORTAL !

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
