FIRST DRAFT "An Instant Before The Promise Of Dawn" 2025
- Label: LYLOPROD Records
- Format: CD/LP/Digital
- Release Date: 10.10.2025
How can a duo consisting only of bass and drums sound more orchestral than a five-piece band? Tours-based duo First Draft answers that question with their breathtaking sophomore full-length, "An Instant Before the Promise of Dawn". Following up on the emotional depth of 2022's "Declines Are Long Gone", Marine (drums/vocals) and Clément (bass) have crafted a cinematic journey that sits somewhere between the crushing weight of Russian Circles and the ethereal beauty of Chelsea Wolfe.
Released in late 2025, this album is a masterclass in tension and release. Throughout the record, you feel the fragility of that "instant" mentioned in the title—the suspended moment before a storm breaks. The bass work is phenomenal, utilizing a massive array of effects to switch from a cavernous, fuzzy roar to delicate, melodic textures. Marine’s drumming provides the perfect backbone, driving the songs with a tribal urgency, while her haunted, soaring vocals add a ghostly layer of emotion that sets them apart from the purely instrumental post-rock crowd.
The album shines in its dynamic control, building from quiet, ambient whispers into massive, cathartic waves of sound. It’s rare to find a record that feels this intimate yet this expansive. First Draft has managed to capture the feeling of watching a sunrise over a crumbling world—it’s beautiful, it’s terrifying, and you can't look away.
A hauntingly powerful record. First Draft has redefined the limits of the duo format, delivering one of the most evocative post-rock albums of the last few years.
