CHALK HANDS "The Line That Shapes the Coast of Us" 2026

Four years after the emotional gut-punch of "Don’t Think About Death", Brighton’s Chalk Hands are finally back with their second full-length, "The Line That Shapes the Coast of Us". For anyone who’s been following the UK screamo scene, this isn't just an album—it’s an event ! While their debut was a claustrophobic exploration of mortality, this new record feels like stepping out of a dark room into a stormy, vast coastal landscape.
The band’s "post-everything" signature is more refined than ever. They’ve masterfully evolved their blend of frantic screamo intensity and shimmering post-rock textures. Tracks like "Pauvre de Moi" and the monumental "Day Glow" showcase a band that has learned to use silence and melody as effectively as their wall-of-sound crescendos. The guitar work drifts between delicate math-rock flickers and crushing, dissonant riffs, while the dual vocals continue to deliver that signature "anguished-yet-resolute" desperation.
What makes this record a 2026 standout is its sense of contrast. There’s a newfound maturity in the songwriting—moments of ambient beauty ("A Surefire Way To Disappear") that crash head-first into some of the most violent outbursts the band has ever recorded. It’s a record that breathes, aches, and eventually soars. Chalk Hands have managed the impossible: staying true to their raw DIY roots while producing a cinematic masterpiece of modern heavy music.
A breathtaking evolution. Chalk Hands have solidified their place at the forefront of the international post-hardcore scene. Essential listening.

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI, AGNOSTIC FRONT... quickly leading him to explore THRASH METAL and CROSSOVER styles (SLAYER, EXODUS, KREATOR, VOIVOD, ANTHRAX, S.O.D., TESTAMENT...) and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Not to mention the DEATH-METAL/GRIND-CORE wave (DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, MORGOTH, NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER...)...
