Ahead of their upcoming UK tour, TEST PLAN share their new live session, "Live In Darkness One", bringing together their four tracks alongside their latest single, "Gone".
After three years of touring across the UK, Europe and the US, sharing stages and supporting the likes of A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, SNAPPED ANKLES, PULLED APART BY HORSES, ANS SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR, and THE BLACK LIPS, "Live In Darkness One offers" a glimpse into the intensity, volume and primal nature that has become central to TEST PLAN's live shows.
The session came together almost by accident. After leaving their North London studio in December 2025, TEST PLAN found themselves with temporary access to a rehearsal room named "Darkness One", for one week before moving into their new studio. With little preparation time, the band decided to make use of the space, turning the empty, well-worn rehearsal room, where countless bands had played before, into a DIY recording studio.
Rory Dickinson (Bass) explains :
“We’re always ambitious and work with whatever we have. We didn’t have a lot of time so we immediately called everyone we knew who could help film this, covered the stained walls in curtains, got hold of some lights and made the best of what we had.”
The band recorded the session themselves with Max Mason (Drums/Vocals) taking on the video editing, mixing and mastering duties, Camille Alexander and Mary Musa on the cameras and Niel Anderson and Aaron Hartmann assisting.
Dickinson adds “We were so happy how it came out, we recorded with our beaten up microphones and it was raw but not totally lo-fi. We wanted to make it feel like you’re at a TEST PLAN show and we think it does exactly that.”
Four of the five tracks featured on "Live In Darkness One"; "Walking In A Vacuum", "My Teeth", "So Bored At Your Squat Rave" and "It’s Not Enough", began life as standalone singles before being collected together as "Four Songs", a cassette EP self-released by the band last year. Vinyl has long been on the list for TEST PLAN and after three years of playing these songs live, the time felt right to finally give "Four Songs" the physical and streaming release they had always intended for it. What began as four separate releases now comes together as a single record, marking TEST PLAN's first vinyl release of their own.
Released ahead of their upcoming UK September tour with New York’s CEREMONY EAST COAST, "Live In Darkness One" is out on Thursday 3rd September, with "Four Songs" available on streaming and vinyl pre-order on the same day.
