NN - Resistance & Equality ! (Old-School Hardcore - Interview with Nicola)
How it all began ?
Hello, I’m Nicola of NN band. NN was formed in the spring of 2019 by a group of friends who shared several bands, concerts, stages and bars in the past years. The current and original line-up consists of Alex on vocals, Nicola ‘Bagnaccia’ on guitar, Giulio ‘Cicx’ on bass, and Nicola ‘Baila’ on drums. We played harcore, punk rock, grind and similar in bands like CSCH, Carlito, Armenta, Nutries, IxGOTxI, so we got together to continue our passion of making noise.
Two letters only .... "NN" for a band name, that looks pretty unusual... What's behind this name ?
NN stands for Non Nominato - nomen nescio in latin - that could be translated to “unknown name”. This abbreviation is also used by the police for those individuals who refuse to provide their identity. (How cool ! - Ed.)
Describe your sound and explain why | should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
We basically play hardcore punk, but we simply play what we can and like without constraints, infected by the multiple genres of music we listen to, hardcore, d-beat, punkrock, speedrock, grind, death and more. You should listen to our music like listening to a new band of old mates.
Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
We take inspiration from what surrounds us, what we see and hear. Lyrics are important for whatever we want to express, we talk about anti-racism, anti-fascism, but also about life experiences, loves, passions, moods. We would like to say that respect, towards every living being and the place where we live, is important to us.
Some words about your releases ?
We started recording diy in the rehearsal room and self-producing two demos of three songs, DemoNN in the summer of 2021 and SataNN in the summer of 2022. In summer of 2023 we recorded our first full-length LP with 10 tracks called “Peccato” at the ‘distilleria produzioni’, the studio of Maurizio Baggio, an excellent sound engineer and an old friend of ours who we had played together in the past, closed to our home. Artwork made by Alex and Cicx and the cover picture by our friend and tatoo artist Giovanni Concato. Co-produced by independent labels: Charles Records, LCDS Records, Coda Fanzine and Uto?ia Fanzine. We produce it in a CD format that you can find in bandcamp. You also stream it in all the music platforms.
Future plans ?
Now we are creating new songs with the idea of recording another record or even a split with a band of friends. There is never enough time !
Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
Made a Japan tour and play in some famous festivals in Europe and Usa with super tour bus and all confort !
Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name....
There are a lot of cool bands in our area, too bad there are fewer and fewer spaces to offer independent, original and niche music. Business, musical and cultural ignorance do not help.
