Let's be honest... from the very first notes, my reaction was simple, concise and brief.... "Holy f**kin' shit" ! In the space of a few seconds, you know right away that this album is going to blow you away... With influences ranging from Asphyx to Morbid Angel, Entombed and Death, needless to say, you're in the presence of an old-school DEATH-METAL nugget that oozes macabre, stench and morbidity !
There's no room for demonstrative, progressive plans, etc... we're talking about old-school Death-Metal, that style built on big, gripping riffs, neck-breaking rhythms, otherworldly atmospheres, a feeling of death, a brutal aura... and that's what PYRE excel at ! PYRE restore the raw sound of the early 90's to perfection, everything is there... the raw, guttural, brutal vocals, the dark, unhealthy atmospheres, the syncopated rhythms, the accelerations alternating with slower, even doomy breaks... guitars screaming out pain and suffering... The quality of the compositions is impressive, the tracks are all very varied, always a riff, a break here or there that hits you mercilessly or creates a surprise... and the mastery is there, the musicians are impressive and one senses an incredible level of requirement, the 4 years spent composing to release this new album are no coincidence, it's pampered, polished... and in the end, it doesn't fail... it leaves the listener breathless !
So, of course, if I wanted to find something “negative”, I could also say that this new album brings nothing new to the style, but who cares ? DEATH-METAL is DEATH METAL, a style that obeys only itself, to very precise patterns, and which, in my opinion, has no vocation to “evolve” - at the risk of losing all its quintessence and denaturing itself... no compromise, PYRE have understood this well and serve you up here - I can already confirm it - one of the very best productions of the style in 2025 !

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
