LEGIONS OF WAR "Dark Dimensions" 2021

Yeah the Northmen are back - it took them 5 years to release that new album, after they did 3 releases on INFERNÖ Records between 2009 & 2016 ! To be totally honest, it's GOOD to have them back in the game, as I really loved their previous works, delivering in my opinion a very personal kind of energetic "blackened" THRASH METAL with always that concern for HEAVY riffs & superb melodies in the guitar works, taking roots in the purest HEAVY METAL tradition, that make me think of bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST or ACCEPT.. They for sure have that gift to find the perfect balance between the two styles without ever falling into the "clichesque" ! Go listen to their "Honour To The Past" mini-CD, gathering covers of WASP, JUDAS PRIEST, STORMWITCH, MOTORHEAD, GARY MOORE, you'll be amazed about how they can turn those classics to their own style - that's killer !
Now out on CARELESS Records, "Dark Dimensions" is the continuation of "Forced To The Ground", the style hasn't changed that much, still that blackened THRASH METAL with sore/raw type of vocals - but still very much enjoyable & catchy - the aggressive side of the music is still very present there, however I find the songs even better composed than before, a lot more breaks here and there, variations and tempo-changes which keep the listener attentive and interested .. and like I said, there's always something here and there that gets you surprised and makes you say "yeah, well done", that little thing that sets them apart from other bands of the same genre and makes you realise you have here a very surprising release if you dig the previously mentioned style.. The rhythms are still so powerful, heavy, hammering while the guitars are even more melodious than before, with awesome & full-of-feelings soli... This is the perfect combination of what THRASH METAL & HEAVY METAL can bring you in my humble opinion ! Take a few minutes to discover the band and support them, in a perfect world, they would be surely BIGGER than what they are now.. shame that justice can't be always done.. but you can do something on your own to repair this !
