DIE BEHÖRDE - Question Authority, Refuse Fatality (Germany - Punk/Post-Punk - Interview with Mücella, Anna & Jan).
Hello ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
Mücella: We’re “Die Behörde” from Bremen: a pretty nice flinta-fronted (post-)punk band. We were all fascinated by this kind of music, even if some of us didn’t have that much experience. For us, it’s about just trying things out, expressing ourselves, and letting some energy out – all within the very supportive, appreciative context of the punk scene. And besides making music together, that’s probably the most important part: shared experiences, meeting new people, and keeping the scene alive.
Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
Jan: Why start a band? Because a band is simply the best thing in the world! And this band just grew organically over the years. “Die Behörde” has existed in this form and under this name since mid-2023. It started as a way for Jan (drums) to fight Corona boredom together with two friends, and pretty quickly Anna joined (on vocals back then). For about a year, it was mostly just jamming around. When Mücella joined on vocals, Anna fully switched to bass, and a second guitarist came in, things started to get serious as “Die Behörde.”
Anna: After a few lineup changes on guitar, the current lineup finally came together in fall 2025: Mücella – vocals, Anna – bass, Lukas – guitar, Luca – guitar, Jan – drums. And hopefully it’ll stay this solid for a long time!
Jan: Everyone came in with very different levels of experience. Worth mentioning: Anna had never played bass before, and Mücella had never sung before. All in all, for three out of five people in the current lineup, this is their first real band experience.
Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Mücella: You could say we’re playing a post-punk sound. But there are also a few more “classic” punk songs and some hardcore influences in there. One thing we’re definitely not is “Deutschpunk.” What really stands out are the urgent lyrics – sometimes personal, sometimes political – and, musically, that certain noise element.
Jan: The members all come from very different backgrounds and tastes. The one band we’d probably all agree on, though, is Die Nerven.
Mücella: “Authorities” (Behörden) as part of state power often trigger bad feelings or a sense of pressure for a lot of people. But that’s not how they should be. They should help us shape how we live together and be under the control of the people. And maybe that’s something our sound is trying to express, too.
Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
Anna: Lyrics are extremely important to us. Mücella always brings a big chunk of text that needs to be worked through – and it often comes straight out of personal experience.
Mücella: At the core, we obviously want to call things out, but also go one step further and say: stick together; it will get better again. And to offer up some utopias, too.
About the band's discography... Imagine someone who doesn't know your band at all and wants to get interested in.. Which release would you recommend to start with, and why?
Jan: So far, we’ve released a 4-track EP called "Schule Arbeit Tod" (School Work Death). It first came out digitally in early 2024. In 2025, our friend Hauke (from the bands Marderschaden and Dreck) also put it out as a small-run tape on his label Bremspedal Records. Totally DIY.
Mücella: I think the EP is a solid place to dive in, even though we’ve already continued to develop — both in terms of lineup and sound.
About your latest release ?
Anna: In November 2025 we were back in the studio, at Tonmeisterei in Oldenburg — kind of a legendary place for punk, hardcore, and related stuff in the German-speaking scene 😃 Recording and production were once again handled by our friend Alex Pojda. We ended up with 8 songs, some of which had already proven themselves live. The record will be called "Der letzte Arbeitgeber" (The Last Employer).
Mücella: The plan is a tape release and, of course, digital. If it works out, we want to go vinyl this time as well. Fingers crossed it’ll be out as early as possible in early 2026.
Jan: The artwork is inspired by — and features — the TV tower in Bremen-Walle. An iconic and somehow dystopian building. But also a symbol of home for some band members and for the band itself, since our rehearsal space sits right in the shadow of the tower.
Future plans ?
Mücella: First up, we want to get the new record out and play as much as possible. We’ve also already written some new songs that we’re planning to record soon. Overall, we’re pretty open to whatever comes next.
Your most insane dream with the band would be?
Anna/Mücella: Just once: travelling by Nightliner 😄
Jan: Playing a gig with Thees Uhlmann ;-)
Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
Jan: We’ve had some really great shows, but also a few not-so-great ones. Our benchmark for a bad show was our second-ever gig, on a big stage at a small festival with very few people in the crowd. We also played a show in Hamburg where we went on as a four-piece (only one guitar) and were plagued by technical issues.
Mücella: Most of our other shows have been really good, though. Our very first gig was already on a big stage at Breminale, or our hometown show at Karo (the bar right across from our rehearsal space) with lots of familiar faces and friends. And we had the honor of supporting Captain Planet.
Next live-appearance(s) ?
Ann: In 2026, we want to play outside Bremen more often. The following dates are already confirmed:
23.01. – Chemnitz
24.01. – Leipzig
28.03. – Bremen
08.05. – Braunschweig
09.05. – Berlin
07./08.08. – two festivals in northern Germany
Jan: Hit us up if you want us to play!
Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Mücella: We’re really happy to have found such an active scene in Bremen. There are countless other bands, lots of opportunities to play, and just a big network. We’ve already played on 7–10 different stages just in Bremen. It’s hard to name individual bands, but for us, our friends in Marderschaden (from Oldenburg) and Uschis Mutti are really important. Also Frustwut, where our guitarist Luca plays as well.
Jan: But it also works well to connect outside Bremen. Especially Leipzig is pretty easy to get plugged into, and in terms of the scene, it’s probably the most comparable to Bremen.
Last word is yours..
Stay in solidarity and stick together!
