THE MEFFS - An attitude ! An Outlet ! Brit' Punk Gets Real ! (England - Punk Rock/Brit' Punk - Interview with Lily).

Hello, Lily! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music? 
Music is everything, it's universal. I think that's the appeal. My sister used to make me mixed tapes of bands like Nirvana and The Offspring when I was around ten. From there I got into all sorts of music but didn't start playing guitar or singing until I was an adult. I fell in love with punk and hardcore because it didn't require me to know how to read music or be trained. It's about an attitude.


 
Tell me about THE MEFFS... How you met - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THE MEFFS ?
We met in a pub in our hometown. Lewis worked there and I drank there! Years later I wanted to start something new so sent him a message on Messenger saying "Do you wanna be in a band?" and he said yeah. That was it! THE MEFFS is my outlet and the outlet of loads of others; there's no alternative reality where I don't do this.
 
Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to THE MEFFS at all cost ?
LOUDER THAN A FOUR PIECE. Our new album "Business" was written to be performed live and to pin you to the wall, so don't listen to or watch THE MEFFS unless you want to sweat and have the time of your life!

 
  
Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ? 
I love writing about what is going on around me but balancing that with how it affects us all. The world is a scary place, people are fighting for their rights and their lives, and we've got a platform. A small platform, but a platform nonetheless, so why wouldn't we use it? Musically our tastes are so varied which is why don't really fit in just one genre. That's the beauty of THE MEFFS.
 
About the band's discography... Imagine someone who doesn't know your band at all and wants to get interested in.. Which release would you recommend to start with, and why? 
Two of our newest singles, "Business" and "Disorder (Wake Up)". These songs define our current sound and the direction we are going in. They're nasty!


 
About "Business" ? 
"Business" was produced by Dan Weller from the metal band SIKTH. The songs on the upcoming album are heavier but Dan helped bring out an extra bit of heavy. The album is our most vulnerable yet huge work to date and we love every single song on there. The artwork is by GARJK who has worked with loads of musicians and produces really sick designs. "Business" is out on 11th September on all streaming platforms, vinyl, cassette, CD, digitally and on KiTAlbum. All links can be found on linktree.com/themeffs.

Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
We recently played with JOAN JETT and the BLACKHEARTS which was something 13 year old Lily would never have believed would happen.
 
Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ? 
We toured with NOFX on their final European tour. Enough said. 
Worst... It's rare that a show is all bad so this is hard to answer. I sprained my ankle mid set on a huge festival stage last year, fell over, but carried on the set knowing it was swelling up bad under my baseball boots. Turned out to be one of our best festival performances!


 
Next live-appearances ?
We're doing a UK in-store run in September then heading to Germany for some exclusive headline shows to promote the new album. We're out with THE LEVELLERS and ITCHY for the remainder of the year.
 
Some words on your local scene in Essex - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ? 
We're proud to be from Essex, but there's not loads to do in our hometown. Shout out to THREE WISE MONKEYS Venue and BLACK CACTUS Studios where we rehearse. They've invaluable to the local scene. When I was a kid there was a tiny venue called THE TWIST that had the best sweaty alternative nights (RIP).

 
 
What’s the question you’ve always dreamed of answering but have never been asked? Just a heads-up: I’m also waiting for the answer that goes with it...
Would you rather be chased by Jaws for your whole life or live in Final Destination? It's a question we've had many debates about. It's Jaws 15 so he's grown feet, but I can't live in Final Destination on edge all the time, so I'm going Jaws. Also DRAIN'S latest album has a shark on the front and it's my album of 2025 so it's a sign.
