Express interview to help you discover as many of today's most interesting bands as possible - this time, TEIGNE, GrindCore/HardCore from France - Interview with Stooph (Drums).

Hi ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all started for you—your introduction to this musical universe, what attracted you to it, what fascinated you, and what made you want to make music?
Hello, thank you very much for taking the time to do this! Stooph for TEIGNE! For me, my encounter with extreme music happened gradually, starting with punk, then hardcore punk, then wanting to go even further with grindcore and fast music (Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, Nasum, Mumakil, Blockheads, Infest, Inhumate) - It's time to grind!!! The race for blast beats and speed blew my mind!

Tell me about the band... How did you meet—the current lineup—past experiences—and above all—WHY did you feel the need to form THIS band?
TEIGNE was born from the ashes of WEAK, a band that Manu, our guitarist, had put together but only had the opportunity to play one show. It was a kind of disposable side project, in a way. I thought it was cool. I wanted to take it further by suggesting we build on the foundations of three old songs. And here we are today. Manu is a guitarist I've known for a long time, from TREPAN DEAD and UNSU. I thought it would be cool to play with him. I met Gaëlle, the singer, by chance at a concert by POITOU, her former band. I was impressed by her stage presence. I suggested the current plan to her, she wasn't reluctant, and I talked to Manu about it a little later, who wanted to try a rehearsal. The need to form this band is a need for something new. The need to form a project that mixed Hardcore, slow Doom-Stoner and, of course, Grind-Core. We immediately started composing, taking these ingredients into account.

Can you describe your sound and explain why I should listen to TEIGNE at all costs?
Our sound is a bit specific because our guitarist had the idea of using two amp heads + cabs, a bass head + cab, and he manages these three distinct elements all by himself, with a multitude of effects. He has managed to create a sound that is unique to us. On the drum kit, I have two snare drums, one sharp and high-pitched for the fast parts and one rather dull and fat for the slow parts, which we load with reverb. Gaëlle does the job with just the power and different tones of her voice. As for why you should listen to TEIGNE, it's mainly because of the mix of styles and the uniqueness of our sound. Even though we're primarily a live band, we've managed to bring out some great things on record, and we're really happy with that!

What are your lyrical and musical inspirations/influences? How important are lyrics to you? Are there any specific messages or thoughts that you try to develop and share through your lyrics?
We have many inspirations... Chiens, Shitbrain, Ona Snop, Warfuck, Weekend Nachos, Insect Warfare, Guilt of Portrayal, Fminus, Napalm Death, Choof, The Ex, Joy Division, Cuir, David Bowie, Pig Destroyer, Deviate, Terror, Jesus Piece, Blockheads, Weedeater, Yob, Black Sabbath, Sunn O, and all kinds of experimental styles.
Gaëlle is in charge of the lyrics, a difficult exercise in which she revisits certain experiences, exploring traumas from her life or stories from everyday, mundane life. An analysis of psychological bifurcations, societal behaviors, human setbacks, the strange things that happen to us, that affect us, that weigh us down, suffering, questioning, human darkness, relativity, inertia, resilience... which is the name of our album!

Speaking of “Resilience” — what can you tell us about it?
Our album “Resilience” was released in October 2025. We immediately followed it up with a tour from October 29 to November 8 in Eastern Europe. A second tour is planned from December 4 to December 13 in France. It was recorded in May 2025 in two different locations. At Oscar's in Marly (Collectif Culturel, near Valenciennes - Northern France - Ed.) for the drum tracks and at Nico's, a friend who has a studio, where we had all the time we needed to do the guitars and vocals.
Julien (Skelethal, Mere Mortals) was in charge of recording, editing, and mixing, and Simon (The Lumberjack Feedback) did the mastering. The recording was intense because since our beginnings, we've been working on projects and concerts one after another, and we made this album in the middle of all that and with a deadline for release. We remain convinced that our previous experiences are a major asset in being able to move so quickly and ensure a minimum level of quality for this kind of exercise. Our vinyl album was financed by the Belgian label LONER CULT. For our part, we pressed CDs. Our album can be listened to on Bandcamp, where you can make a donation by purchasing the tracks, and on YouTube, where you can listen to it in its entirety for free...

What are your plans?
To continue to evolve without setting ourselves any barriers, to develop our style, to perform live, to have a good time meeting people on the road. To show sincerity and integrity for the scene that is on the move. We plan to play in England in September!

and finally... upcoming live performances?
Our next dates after the December 2026 tour are January 31 in Utrecht, February 6 in Antwerp with Mass Grave and My Mind Mines, February 15 in Lille at the CCL, March 6 in Trier, March 13 in Diepenbeek, April 10 in Rolampont, May 29 at the Toxoplasmose festival in Switzerland, and June 27 at the Rock In Bourlon festival. We're also planning a new tour for September, which will likely include a few dates in England! (Damn busy guys ! Good luck with that ! Have FUN ! Ed.)
