ONLY MESS - Take It As It Comes (Punk-Rock - Interview with Greg LYJAK)

 - How it all began ?
The band was founded by me - Greg Lyjak (guitar) and Paweł Kus (drums) in 2022. A moment later Michal Matraszek joined. This line-up recorded an album for the legendary Polish label Antena Krzyku. In this year Slawomir Ksiezniak joined on bass. We all come from south-eastern Poland. We've known each other for a very long time. Sometimes we played together in different bands (Hidden World, Infradzwieki, Moriah Woods, Naczynia). There was a time when we really wanted to return to the music we grew up with in the early 90s. If not now, when ?

- Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
You don't have to listen to our band. You don't have to do anything lol. But if you like old american hardcore, british punk rock bands and what is currently happening in this style in Australia, you should like it.

- Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
We or maybe I are inspired by what we have known for a long time and is common for us (Nomeansno, Fugazi, Bad Brains, Shellac etc) but also by many new great bands (Idles, Whores, Tropical Fuck Storm, Shame and many others). We really are freaks and huge music fans. All music, this is our passion. Our texts mainly contain the experiences of our adult lives (we are all over 40, even almost 50... unfortunately not together). They often concern disappointment with what surrounds us, working in a corporation, everyday difficulties and small joys of being ourselves.

- About your latest release ?
in case you're about to release something new really soon, speak about this upcoming release instead ;-)
Our short CD "6 Handmade Songs Recorded Some Time Ago" was recorded in Mustasche Ministry studio with our friend Marcin Klimczak, who is also a musician and recorded the bass guitar parts on it. We made everything related to the album cover and the music videos ourselves. It's always great fun for us. We are currently creating a new album and have already released two singles: "The Snow" (with an insane music video with my storyline) and "Let's Talk About Death"

- Future plans ?
Play as much as we can and have fun doing it ! Release records and play concerts for everyone, everywhere.

- Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
At the moment our dream is a European tour alongside a band we know and like ... IDLES ! :-)) (They're so great - Ed.)

- Next live-appearance(s) ?
Our next show is on April 30 in Warsaw. Several music festivals including Robmy Swoje - 40 years of Antena Krzyku !

- Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
There are tons of great performers on our local scene : Bliss, Dom Zly, Sonic Wasteland, The Penthouse, Steve Martin, Izzy and the Black Trees, The Stubs and many more !!!
