- Please introduce yourself and let me know how it all began with the band ?
Loup : Hi ! We met with Sylvain a long time ago and played a Stoner band in the 2010’s. Then Sylvain moved to Brittany and the band was no longer, but we remained friends and had in mind to form another band one day... That's in 2018 that we got together again and formed INFERN with my cousin Julien on vocals and we were soon joined by Jean Marie and Simon, who have played with Julien in another band.
- Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Sylvain : We play Death metal, in the old fashion way, our music is written to make you move your head and drink beers with friends.
Loup : We try to find some catchy riffs and write songs that are groovy and loud for a good live experience.
- Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
Julien : Lyrically, I draw most of my inspirations from the world around us. More specifically about how unfriendly it is (The trap of capitalism, ecology, despotism…).The rest of the lyrics are more like what we could expect from a typical death band (paranoia, fears, introspection…). Sometimes it's a little of both. In “Phineas case”, I draw a parallel between the story of Phineas Gage (who was an american railroad construction foreman) and the world in which we live today (the loss of a certain number of landmarks which disrupts our lives, the omnipresence of social networks... ). Over time, human priorities change and there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s also a song about memories.
- About your latest release ?
Sylvain : Our new (and first) album was released on October 4th on CD thanks to Dolorem records, an excellent Death metal label, on Tapes thanks to Scarn Records and we took care ourselves of the Vinyl version.
It has been mixed and mastered in Los Angeles by Charles Elliott from Abysmal Dawn. We're pretty happy with the result, it sounds huge and warm . All versions are available on our bandcamp.
- Future plans ?
Sylvain : We’re gonna make as many shows as we can to promote our album, it’s made to be heard loud and live.
We’re also working on a new video clip and on new songs to prepare the future !
Loup : We have a lot of good song ideas , so now we must find the time to rehearse, play gigs, compose good songs to do another recording.
- Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
Loup: I guess opening for bigger bands and playing festivals is something achievable if we continue working hard.
But an insane and very unrealistic dream would be to quit our jobs for music and tour all over the world.
- Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
Sylvain : That was with another band but : BEST : Hellfest 2016 in front of thousands of people enjoying our show, then WORST : two weeks later a small show in the street at 3AM in front of four drunk guys and girls waiting to go to bed…
Loup: With INFERN we played in front of a crowd of 600 at the Tomahawk fest, front row was out of their mind, a great memory so far. Bad memories, honestly i don’t have any with INFERN !
- Next live-appearance(s) ?
Sylvain : Still working on it but for the moments here’s our next shows :

- Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Sylvain : If you like Hardcore, check the RNhC, there are a lot of good bands there. Check out MEZEL if you like Black/Death and of course, don’t forget to listen to the new AD VITAM INFERNAL (from Dolorem Rec).
Loup : We are good friends with the guys of ANTHARES, we played with them a few times. The guys from BROCKENHEADS also, they appear on our last Video “Tormented Paranoid”.
- Last word is yours..
Loup : Support the underground scene, listen to bands like ours and most important, go to shows to keep the metal scene alive. That is where the real shit is happening… !
Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
