G.L.O.W. - Old School Hardcore Against All Oppression ! (Germany - Punk/HardCore - Interview with Bastian & Domi).
Hello ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
Bastian: I got into music when i was a young teenager. I discovered independent music for me and since i realized that you don’t have to be a musician to be in a band, i bought my first guitar and started to make noise. I play guitar in G.L.O.W.
Domi: I started writing lyrics when I was about 12, I was really into HipHop then. At around 15 I got into punk rock, (post-)hardcore etc. and went to every show I could get to. Someday I began jamming with friends until finally the first bands emerged out of this. It was just an outlet of thoughts and emotions, and I realized there’s something else than playing in the local soccer team or other village associations. You could just start your own thing. So we did.
Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
Bastian: Danijel plays bass (and does some vocals as well) - he started the band. He reached out to me and asked, if i could imagine to play guitar in this new project. Georg is our drummer and Domi our vocalist.
Domi: I knew Danijel since several years from meeting at shows. Once we talked about my previous experiences as a singer, he asked me to try out for his new band, and it worked out. I had been on hiatus for about ten years, so it was a challenge at first, but eventually it all came together.
Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Bastian: If you like old Hardcore-Punk with some Post-Punk-Elements in it, give it a listen.
Lyrical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
Domi: The lyrics are inspired by day-to-day life, political and personal matters. Kinda like a diary. So, what you listen to is what is happening inside of me and has to get out of there.
About your latest release ?
Bastian: The "Fixed" EP was recorded in our rehearsal room by our drummer, Georg (Kolossale Tonspuraufnahmen). He also mixed it and Will Killingsworth (Dead Air Studios) mastered the recording. Danijel does all the artwork for G.L.O.W. You can get the record at the labels involved (my ruin and kink records) or at various distros.
Domi: I think "Fixed" is a huge progression to our demo. We grew together as a band, tried different things and experimented more. I personally found my voice again and grew as a singer.
Future plans ?
Bastian: I would like to play more shows, record more music and meet new people.
Domi: World domination.
Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
Bastian: To play THE FEST.
Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
Bastian: We played one of our first shows with Red Dons. That was pretty exciting.
Next live-shows?
24.5. Munich, Kafe Kult
11.7. Stünze, Down on the farm fest
24.07. Karlstadt U&D
Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Bastian: Cheers to Prying Eyes, Piss Life, Geezers and Malm.
Domi: Shout out to Sakuska DIY and Immerhin! Check Naivs, VEL, Piteous, Viscous and of course Cranial and Fuller.
Last word is yours..
Bastian: Be nice to each other. Fuck racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia and any other form of discrimination and please take care for the animals and the environment. Thanks! Peace!
Domi: Go to shows, even of bands you don’t already know. Support your local scene! Express yourself and don’t let anyone tell you who you have to be. Just try to be empathetic. Fuck all forms of racism, sexism, antisemitism, and all-in-all bigotry and retrograde!

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI, AGNOSTIC FRONT... quickly leading him to explore THRASH METAL and CROSSOVER styles (SLAYER, EXODUS, KREATOR, VOIVOD, ANTHRAX, S.O.D., TESTAMENT...) and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Not to mention the DEATH-METAL/GRIND-CORE wave (DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, MORGOTH, NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER...)...
