FIN DEL MUNDO - Ethereal Waves from The Edge (Argentina - Post-Rock/Shoegaze - Interview with Julieta H).
Hello ! Can you introduce yourself and tell us how it all began for you - your encounter with this musical universe, what appealed to you, what fascinated you and what made you want to get into music?
We all started playing many years ago, when we were in high school and living in different cities throughout Argentina. Everything started as a hobby, an activity that we did after college or after work, and the possibility of dedicating our lives to music seemed like a distant dream. But we grew up following the example of many DIY bands and labels that achieved incredible things from the independent scene, creating circuits and ties between artists from different places in our region with a lot of effort, against all odds.
Tell me about the band... How you met - the current line-up - past experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band?
We met in 2019 in Buenos Aires, the same line-up that continues to this day: Lucía (guitar and vocals), Yan (bass), Tita (drums) and I, Julieta (guitar). We had shared some previous bands but were looking for something new, a space to explore certain musical genres and influences that were not so usual in our scene: more instrumental, shoegaze, post-rock or midwest-emo kind of thing.
Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
We had a lot of freedom when we wrote our songs. Everything was created during rehearsals, the four of us composing simultaneously and adding pieces to the puzzle. That’s why our songs don’t usually follow a traditional structure but build a collective story. We like to use many guitar effects and create several layers of overlapping melodies, taking our listeners on a sensory journey with a lot of energy that grows on stage.
Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
We believe that certain effects and atmospheres remind us of the south of our country, the place where we (the two guitarists) grew up: large natural spaces, deserts, the sea and constant wind. Therefore the name of the band means "End of the World", the southernmost region, where the American continent ends. The lyrics written by Lucia were also inspired by these places, by nature and the creation of communities to resist adversity.
About your latest release ?
Our latest release “Hicimos Crecer un Bosque” was recorded in May 2024 at Unísono studio in Buenos Aires. The cover art was designed by Francisco Picone based on photographs taken by Candela Pérez.
The name of the album means “we grew a forest” and we wanted to create a story in which the concept of the “collective” prevailed, using gang vocals on more than one song and speaking in plural. The story tells the perspective of someone who is going through a difficult period, where many of their loved ones had to go far away in search of a more prosperous future while the protagonist finds herself in a devastated and hostile environment, along with others who also couldn’t leave. In a plot where isolation and individualism are the imperative, this character reflects on her past, present and future with the hope that hard times are transitory and with the certainty that she will get ahead building together with other people. Towards the end of the album we see a glimpse of the fruits that “we grew” together despite the uncomfortable scenario, as if they were trees within a large forest.
The album is available through Spinda Records in vinyl, CD and cassette. Also on all music platforms and Bandcamp.
Future plans ?
Right now we are taking a break after a long year working with the album release and promotion. In 2026 we only have a brief tour through Spain and France, plus one last show in Argentina before the end of the year. In the meantime, we have some side projects: Lucía with Diversiones, I just started Los Altares, and Tita has been playing for a few years with Nadar de Noche. We all have some news and releases coming soon.
Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
A recurring dream of the band is to play in Japan some day. For me anywhere in Asia would be insane, and all the countries that we haven’t been able to visit yet.
Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
One of the best concerts was last year in Mexico: we played at an incredible festival (Hipnosis) in front of a lot of people who came to see us early —also one of the best audiences ever— and we had the opportunity to share lineup and backstage with bands that we admire like Dinosaur Jr, Pavement and Spiritualized.
The worst concert was due to technical inconveniences at a venue that was opening that same night, so it was super complicated to set up. Also, most of the audience didn’t know us because they were just attending the opening of that new place.
Next live-appearance(s) ?
We have an upcoming tour in May, mostly in Spain (Mallorca, Murcia, Valencia, Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba, Oviedo, Zaragoza, Madrid, Barcelona, Castellón and Vitoria-Gasteiz) and two cities in France (Nantes and Rennes). More info at linktr.ee/findelmundo
