DAYS SPENT - Time Waits For No One (Hard-Core - Interview with Nancy)
Express interview to help you discover as many of today's most interesting bands as possible - this time, DAYS SPENT, Hard-Core from Florida/USA - Interview with Nancy (Vocals).

How it all began ? How did you team up - current line-up - past band experiences - and above all - WHY the need to form THIS band ?
Days Spent began as a slow project as just a 4 piece, with Joey (guitar) on vocals. After some member and instrument changes, I was asked to join and a few months later we got Huey to play bass. We have all been involved in Florida hardcore for over 15 years, and fans of each other's old bands. We were all magnetized to Joey, who played guitar in our favorite hardcore band from the early 00s, Barriers Now Bridges (their vocalist Josh went on to do Expire) and Huey played in another heavy hitter from the area, Incited. I sang in many hardcore bands these past 20 years, and hopefully my reputation preceded me, which led to me being recruited for this project.
We were ready to play our first show in Spring of 2020. We all know how that ended, so we spent the rest of the year writing and recording. When shows came back, we came out swinging.

Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Our love for heavy music spans the genre, and we bring influence from everything from Slayer to Terror to Defeater. Lots of thrashy riffs with traditional 2-step elements, and raw vocals. We hope to come off as honest and no bullshit.

Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
When I joined this band I made a promise to myself to write about social issues, mostly feminist ideals. I often would write about emotional conflicts in previous projects, and this time I wanted to make sure our message was very clear. There is plenty of room in this world for more feminists, and I hope to eloquently express myself and gain willing ears to listen.

About your latest release ?
"Grieve/Thrive" was Recorded, Mixed and Mastered by Nick Diiorio of Thunder House Sound in Port St Lucie, Florida. I designed the artwork from an archived pamphlet that encouraged settlers to plant orange groves in the 20s or 30s in Florida. I like to keep a Florida influence on most of our artwork. The name comes from lyrics from Best Wishes. It's just a digital release currently - so Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, etc.

Future plans ?
Just keep playing hardcore shows in Florida. We have families and full time jobs, and the band is just meant to be extracurricular. We don't plan to tour.

Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
I can't speak for the rest of the guys, but the goal is to keep playing and putting out music. We are content with the pace of the band.

Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Florida has been very good to us and we are thankful for every scene and promoter that has given us a chance. We have seen and done it all between the 5 of us, so we are gracious for the attention. Cold Steel, Migrant Fury, 430 Steps, Spit Truth, Gillian Carter, Damage Done, Drosera, Godseyes, Pure Bliss - all bands that have shown us extra love.

Born 1969, grew up with the NWOBHM sounds, musically educated with cult french magazines that were ENFER and METAL ATTACK, definitely nailed to the style when "The Number Of The Beast" by IRON MAIDEN was released... From 1982, it was clear life would never be the same ! Young & getting wild to the HEAVY sounds of SAXON, VENOM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, Young Fab also discovered thanks to school mates the NOISE, FILTH & FURY of Hard-Core/Punk bands like G.B.H, DISCHARGE, BROKEN BONES but also CRO-MAGS, BAD BRAINS, FUGAZI... and later on, through the 90's, everything that was ALTERNATIVE, EXPERIMENTAL, GRUNGE, INDUSTRIAL (SONIC YOUTH, NINE INCH NAILS, SOUDGARDEN, ALICE IN CHAINS)... Passion & curiosity grew up as years went by ... Fate was SEALED... no turning back ! No Music = No Life !
