CANCERVO - The Day Of The Beast ! (Doom Metal - Interview with Gioia)
- Please introduce yourself and let me know how it all began with the band ?
Ciao Rough Times ! We're Cancervo, a doom band from north Italy. Basically we're 3 friends, Luka bass & voice, Gioia on guitar and Sam on drums, who grew up in a small valley full of ancient tales and 5 years ago decided to put some music on them. Our past listening were so different but Kyuss was the meeting point.
- Describe your sound and explain why I should listen to YOUR band at all cost ?
Our sound it's evolving records by records. Songs are becoming slow and dark and the sound full and scathing. We love obsessive drum patterns, wet bass sound and guitars able to cut the mix. The Voice it's also evolving with the sound, and song by song it's taking a leading role in the band.
- Lyrical and musical inspirations/influences ? How important are the lyrics for you ? Are there any specific messages or thoughts you try to develop and share through your lyrics ?
Black Sabbath ! It's the name ! hahaha... behalf the jokes, we love classic rock (BS, Iron butterfly), classic stoner-doom (Electric Wizard, Sleep) but also 80-90's metal (Slayer, Type O Negative). Lyrics for us are so important because they allows us to spread our culture all over the world !
- About your latest release ?
"III" was recorded in a small chalet on the mountain "Cancervo" the last winter with the help of our mate OTTO. 4 songs, a lot of volume and passion on it. Graphics are also an idea by us developed by EVR studio. III Was released the past march with our label Electric Valley Record in black or transparent splatter black/violet vinyl. It can be purchased on our Bandcamp with digital copy or with our merch.
- Future plans ?
"IV" ... it's already in our mind, ready to be transfered to our hands/instruments. We're also under discussion to re-records some tracks from our first album as soundrack for a movie.
- Your most insane dream with the band would be ?
Playing in a deconsecrated church could be enough to fullfill our dreams !
- Your BEST & WORST concert - as a band - and why ?
Best concert was a small festival closer to our hometown. There was something magic on this concert and our way to aproach stage/live changed after that ! (Well, apparently, no worst concert, that's good ! hehe.. ed.)
- Next live-appearance(s) ?
We will close the year with our friends Humulus in our hometown and then 2025.. the plan is to make another roundtrip around Europe ! Let's see !!
- Some words on your local scene - bands you're friends with and you'd like to name ?
Italian scene it's growing and we love to mention our friends Messa, 1782, Bottomless, Humulus, Wizard Master etc. We also meet some friend on the road like Coltaine and Opium Palace...
